Country Code 599 discontinued for St. Maarten

Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten would like to remind the general public that, as part of St. Maarten’s transition to the North American Numbering Plan, the use of country code 599 will be discontinued for St. Maarten.

LACTLD is the Regional Organization for Latin America and the Caribbean ccTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domains). As a LACTLD member, .SX Registry (Sint Maarten) hosted this important event which gave the unique opportunity for technical capacity building in the region with the support of the Internet Society (ISOC) and ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).
Universal Postal Union (UPU) Congress Preparations

On Thursday and Friday September 6th and 7th representatives of Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten met in Aruba in preparation for the upcoming UPU congress in DOHA, Qatar. The Sint Maarten delegation consisting of Mr. D. Richardson (PSS), Mrs. L. Richardson-Gibbs (GOV) and Ms. P. Brandon (BTP-SXM) joint colleagues from Aruba and Curacao on congress proposals which will be presented for voting during the congress.
New tariff structure BTP-SXM; effective September 15th 2012

The new tariff structure, created by Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten, which would establish adjustments to regulatory fees in St. Maarten, is set to begin September 15th 2012.

On September 22, 2012, SX Registry will officially launch the local Sint Maarten Priority Phase, allowing local businesses and residents to register their .sx internet domain.
Consumer Affairs BTP-SXM fully operational

Starting today the Consumer Affairs department of Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten (BTP-SXM) is fully operational and St. Maarten residents and businesses are now able to seek for advice or file a complaint about issue's or disputes they are experiencing with their telecommunications and post service providers.
Sint Maarten (.SX) new LACTLD member

On June 25th, SX Registry which manages the .SX domain representing the country code of Sint Maarten, officially joined Latin America and the Caribbean TLD Association during the 44th ICANN Meeting in Prague. SX Registry's CEO, Normand Fortier stated that: "It was most important for Sint Maarten to join this association as Sint Maarten will now have an equal voice regarding Top Level Domain issues, along with Aruba, Curaçao and Anguilla who are already members.
New Exit Code Country St. Maarten; 011

Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten takes this opportunity to address that today, May 28th 2012, a new exit code is introduced to St. Maarten: “011” . This as part of St. Maarten’s transition to the North American Numbering Plan. Starting today, exit code 011 will be the new code to dial OUT of St. Maarten when making an international call and will replace 00.
Retailer Guide Over-the-Air Digital TV Broadcasts

Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten made a retailer guide which is designed to help retailers and store personnel prepare for the transition from over-the-air (OTA) analog TV broadcasts to OTA digital TV broadcasts.
Full transition to DVB-T on January 1st 2013

St. Maarten will make a full transition to DVB-T on January 1st 2013. This means that if you have a standard analog TV, you will no longer be able to receive over the air television. This was announced by COO of BTP-SXM, Mr. Giovanni King, during a DVB-T Seminar on April 10th 2012 in Divi little bay Beach resort. Digital Television consultant from the USA, Ms. Myra Moore who was also present, gave a keynote address on the global standards and future developments of Digital Television.
