LACTLD Technical Workshop St. Maarten Big Success

LACTLD is the Regional Organization for Latin America and the Caribbean ccTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domains). As a LACTLD member, .SX Registry (Sint Maarten) hosted this important event which gave the unique opportunity for technical capacity building in the region with the support of the Internet Society (ISOC) and ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).
The LACTLD Technical Workshop dealt with 3 topics concerning essential security issues of registries. The first was Network Security Monitoring for Network Administrators. This one – day course describes topical network security threats, attack vectors, actors, and motivations for conducting attacks with hands-on exercise. The second topic was Cyber Incident Management: CIM is a 2 day course which offers the latest in incident response and cyber defense tactics.

Course instructors for these two courses where Chris Evans and Adam Lange, two experts in network security. The third topic was about DNSSEC implementation in small-sized registries using the TPM Protocol. The instructor for DNSSEC was engineer Luis Diego Espinoza from the ccTLD .cr

Nine ccTLD’s participated in this workshop and 13 participants, mostly from Caribbean ccTLDs (.ai – Anguila, .cw - Curacao, .ht - Haiti, .gy - Guyana, .sx – Sint Maarten and .tt – Trinidad & Tobago) but also from Central America (.cr - Costa Rica and .pa - Panama) and Argentina (.ar).
