Country Code 599 discontinued for St. Maarten

Published on: Oct 05, 2012
Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten would like to remind the general public that, as part of St. Maarten’s transition to the North American Numbering Plan, the use of country code 599 will be discontinued for St. Maarten.
Starting today, all calls to St. Maarten need to be made by using St. Maarten’s new dialing code “1-721” or locally; by dialing the 7 digit local number. Local- and international calls to St. Maarten numbers, made by using 599 will no longer be processed. Country code 599 will only remain in effect for Statia, Saba, Curacao and Bonaire.

St. Maarten residents and business are advised to reprogram devices with stored numbers such as (mobile) phones, faxes, tablets and alarm systems. “+599” in front of all St. Maarten numbers either need to be removed or changed to “+1721” in order for the calls to go through or to identify callers when receiving calls.

Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten requests all residents and businesses to take serious note of this important development. Everyone is urged to make the necessary changes and inform all their personal contacts and business relations of this change.

More information about St. Maarten’s transition to the North American Numbering plan and all new dialing patterns, is available on the North American Numbering Plan Section of this website.
